Relay for Life!

I was able to be part of Relay for Life for the first time this weekend! I was on the Whirlpool team and while I signed up only a week before, I was still able to raise $70! Thanks to Derrick, Lori, Natalie, and Kathy!
Here's part of our team (my friend Ashlee is on the right). We sold socks and ducks for a buck to raise more during the 24-hour event. Ashlee and I volunteered to walk around the loop for about three hours (about 20 minutes it poured down rain!).
Each team had a booth to sell something or other. This year's theme was "Rockin' for a cure"!
We had to leave early in the afternoon because I had to watch Anthony for Lori from 3 to 8 p.m. But as a team, we raised over $10,000! And the entire event raised $503,483.07!
Both of us only had a week or so as team members but have come up with many ideas to raise money throughout the year, i.e. selling stuff (scarves) on Etsy.
At the event, I saw my friend, Ben, that I went to college with and lived next to my senior year in Washington state! I haven't seen him in almost exactly 5 years and it was pretty cool to see him again! His mom lives here in town and his younger brother died of cancer when he was a little boy, so she is usually part of the event every year!
After the relay, I headed over to watch Anthony. He's so cute and adorable! Here he is sitting up on his own, for a picture, but as soon as I took the shot, he started to fall over... sorry, Lori, at least I tried to take pictures! He was not in a very good mood the whole time! I tried everything I could think of, i.e. checking his diaper, holding him, playing with him, massaging his legs, reading him a book, laying on the floor with him, and changing his clothes (maybe he just didn't like what he was wearing!) but nothing seemed to work but taking him in the jogger for a walk through the fields. He started falling asleep in the jogger, so I tried getting him to sleep in his crib for about an hour and finally had to hold him in my arms and take a nap with him on the reclining chair! Hey, no problem! I wanted a nap anyway!

Mason Jennings Concert

Jason bought us tickets to the Mason Jennings concert in Grand Rapids last Thursday evening and we had a really great time! Instead of it being at a huge stadium, it was at a small, more personable venue and we were able to stand right in the front of the stage! Money Mark played as the opener and has such a smooth voice! He used to play for the Beastie Boys. (After they played, the band member in the blue shirt came down into the audience for the remainder of the concert, he was pretty cool, too!)
My friend, Nikkie, showed up (along with Jason's cousin and his girlfriend and his brother and his girlfriend, too!) It was like a family reunion! Actually, it ended up that there were probably about 20 of us that knew each other there!
This is Mason Jennings. Although I was in the front row, he was on the other side of the stage and pictures were hard to take because of the lighting... Either way, he sounded just like his CD and it was very entertaining!
Here we are, after the concert, and ready for the drive back home. Thank goodness he drove, because I go to bed at 10 p.m. and it was after 12 when he dropped me off!

Thanks for taking me, Jay! It was really fun!

Another day with Ben and Katie

Getting off work at 4:30 p.m. has its advantages... but today, I just didn't have anything to do! I first called Rachael to see what she was doing and she was on her way to the hospital. Then I called Lori and she wasn't doing anything (which didn't sound very fun to me). I also knew that Jason was busy, and Betsy and her husband were in Chicago to celebrate their one year anniversary, and my friend Ashley's dad was in town... and my cousin Mindy wouldn't answer her phone! So, I decided to invite myself over to Rachael and Derrick's house and do stuff with Ben and Katie.
We first had to stop and get gas, but then we headed to Taco Bell to get some dinner, then we drove to the beach and ate dinner at a picnic table. Then we headed down to the lighthouse!
I've lived here for a few days over five years now and today was the second time I've ever gone down to the lighthouse! The first time was two days ago! Here's the lighthouse from the end of the pier. And this is the little mini lighthouse at the end of the pier.

He may not look like he's having fun, but he really is!Trying to figure out what to do, we found this log wedged into the sand, so we figured that we should try and get it loose. Let me tell you, it was a very old heavy log, too! We tried pushing, pulling, kicking, etc. and it wouldn't budge! So, I had them start digging the sand while I searched for something to help. We found another log, that wasn't so big and old, but was actually quite heavy, so I had Katie on one side and me and Ben on the other bringing it over and we dug a hole under the old log and wedged the younger log underneath, then we all went to the other end and pushed it up, while the old log moved an inch or so. So, then, we'd start again and keep trying!
Finally, we got it free! Then we said farewell to our dear friend, as we sent it on its way to the great unknown (Lake Michigan)!
We had a great time at the beach! We did get a little wet though and on the way back to the car, Ben's shorts kept falling to his ankles and he'd say "Fray! LOOK!" Which would then cause everyone within hearing distance to turn and look! So, I had to have him keep his hand in his pocket to hold his pants up! Then we had almost made it to the car, when Katie started telling a group of people about the fossil she found on the beach of an alligator! (She actually found a small skeleton and asked me what I thought it was and I told her probably a small crab or something like that! But NOT an alligator!) It wasn't but a few seconds later, we heard them bust up laughing! Katie asked me why they were laughing so hard, I tried to explain it, but I still don't think she got it!
After the beach we went to my house and terrorized hung out with the cats, then headed to Dairy Queen before we went back home... Until next time, guys!

As cute as a bug in a rug!

Or a "cat" in a rug!
My youngest, Rocco, likes to 'hide' under rugs, as if no one will notice! He's such a little chunker! Here you see Jojo watching her younger brother's hiding techniques. She tries to hide, but is a bit more on the clever side and hides under the couch!

Hey, I can still see you, Rocco!

That's better... now, I have no idea where you went! What a great hide and seek player he is!

Never before seen photos!

I was able to hang out with Ben and Katie last night for a few hours while Kristen had her recital and more importantly, was able to take pictures of the two of them together!
We got dinner, went to the park, went to my softball game, then went to their house and went for a walk (Ben in the jogger and Katie on her bike), then we played a game of UNO until the rest of the family got back. It was pretty fun!

My Prince and Princess!

More exercise photos!

Here are just a few more pictures I've taken on my walks...

I cannot promise, but...

I think I'm going to try to do the 1/2 marathon! You know, the one Lori and Rachael keep talking about? Either way, I started the week pretty good... Monday morning I walked 2 miles then went to the Y in the afternoon and worked out for an hour. Then got up this morning and walked/jogged 3 miles.
So far, so good.
I just need to add more jogging and running and less walking!
There's a local 5K at the end of July I'm going to do, and try and get some practice... hopefully it'll help!
Wish me luck!!!

A new hobby

I read in a fitness magazine about starting a new hobby... so, I've decided that I want to start taking some pictures of places and things around my town, while I'm on walks, and blow them up and black and white them and put them in my house. Inspiration to walk more places!

Here are my starter pictures I took on my June 2 walk...

Softball wounds

Yesterday I was practicing some softball moves with Jay, Betsy, and 3 little local kids. It was great practice and Jason is a great coach!

(Here's a picture of me and Ashlee at our first game this season.)
BUT...
I went to catch a fly ball and because I'm scared of the ball, I just reached out my hand and of course it came down on my wrist!
It hurt so bad!

Here you can see the bump. I think maybe a blood vessel popped. But I'm not sure because I'm not in the medical field. I tried calling Rachael over and over, but she never answered her phone! I finally got in touch with Lori via Todd's phone and she told me to put some ice on it. I just didn't want to have to go to the ER or a doctor! I didn't even know if it would turn into a blood clot, go to my heart, and then I'd die and no one would know for at least a day! Believe me, I prayed REALLY hard before going to bed last night!!!Here's a shot of my wrist. See that blue section? That hurts! Here are my wrists today... Obviously, I had to have a co-worker take the picture. It's a huge bruise now!Gross, huh? Hopefully it'll heal quickly!
